Choices!

Work is still underway for the next release. More enemies, levels, and powerups have been added. The AI is being modified to properly simulate the emotions kids would experience.

There will also be additional playable characters. The experiment needs to have a control to measure EG against. The code and animation is nearly complete. We will keep the actual character a secret for now. Though the sneakier folks out there can just look in the source repository.

Holy Lack of Progress Batman!

We haven't done any development on EGv8 in quite awhile, but I have finally restarted work.

Our new artist didn't pan out, she ended up being too busy with other things to replace all the existing work. The work she did do was pretty awesome, but it doesn't match the style of the other images so we aren't adding any of it.

I have been refactoring a bunch of code to make it easier to add new things to the game. I have also been working on some super secret new enemies that I think everyone will enjoy.

Thanks to an awesome fan (yay for open source) we will be integrating joystick support in the next release. It doesn't work perfectly, but I don't have a joystick/gamepad to test with. If you want to donate one let me know.

That is all for now. Sorry for the super long wait. This project didn't die, it just went to sleep. Time to code.

A Quick Update

We haven't posted in awhile so I thought I would give anyone who cares a quick update. We are still working on EGv8, but we have not nailed down a date for v0.5. We are slowing down the development cycle for awhile due to busy project schedules at work.

A lot of new features have already been added to the svn repository. Feel free to download the latest source and test it out. We don't guarantee any stability on that code, so you may want to wait. We have to finish nailing down exactly which features will make it in v0.5. Once we have the road map in place I will post an update here.

In other EGv8 news, we may have a new artist. I know you love the artwork that we have, but there is definitely room for improvement. The new artist has already drawn up a few replacement frames and we love what we see. Hopefully she is motivated enough to continue. If not, I guess you are stuck with what we have.

A preview of things to come...

I know many of you are wondering, 'How could this game possibly get any better?' and for awhile so were we. Well in EGv8 v0.5 you are going to have more to worry about than kids running onto the screen and chomping on your face. Kids will attack from above and below. Some of those little beasties might even throw things at you. And if you thought strong kids were tough, just wait until you meet little Fink, the character inspired by the v0.3 contest winner.

More details to come later!!

Also I would like to give a big shout out to all the sites linking to Evil Greg Vs. Eight Year Olds. The traffic you drive towards us inspires us to add on new features.

If you want something added to the game, please ask! We love attention so much that your idea might get put into the game just for asking. Please look at me!!!!!!

Mailing list and v0.4.1

We had a slight hiccup with v0.4. It completely bombed out with python version 2.4. That has been corrected in v0.4.1. Sorry to anyone that had a problem. Python 2.4 compatibility testing has been added to release procedures, so it won't happen again.

But even more exciting is our new mailing list. If you'd like to receive email updates when new versions of EGv8 are released, then this is what you're looking for. Head on over to our contact page for more information on subscribing.

Version Zero Point Four

Another release date and another on time release of Evil Greg vs Eight Year Olds. Woot! Go Us!

EGv8 v0.4 has more new features and content packed into it than I can sink my teeth into in a single post. Luckily I already covered most of the ground in a previous post, so you know what is coming.

I am going to shut up now, let you download the game, and revel in its glory.

Please let us know what you do or don't like. As always we love feedback.

Contest Winner

The v0.3 Contest has come to a close and we can now announce the winner. A player named Justin from the US sent in the winning screen shot. We will post his screen shot on the main page later tonight. It appears he couldn't get past level 6. We know some of you out there did better than that, but you didn't send in your screen shots.

His prize for sending in the screen shot, in addition to the world wide fame of having his name mentioned and results posted on our main page, is that an 8 year old version of himself will be added into v0.5.

Stay tuned for our next contest!!!

- Additional levels.
- And more!

Bugs:

Wow!! We have been busy!

There isn't much time left for the v0.3 contest. Please send in your results before the release date or you will miss out on great rewards.

Japanese Publicity? Yes please!

Many thanks to the kind user who posted EGv8 on this Japanese site: http://macgames.nekocat.info/ He provided his own screen-shot, which you can also see here. Looks like he's almost through with level 7. Also, the Google translation of the page is hilarious.

Our game's description:
"The game which keeps defeating the child who crowds intently."

HAHAHAHAHA

This puts Japan right behind Germany in my mind. Now if we can only get some more traffic from that site.

Anyway, we are thrilled to see others advertising/publicizing our game. If you want to link to our website, please do so. If you like the game, tell other people. We love seeing the number of hits on our homepage go up, and bigger numbers motivate us to work faster and release sooner. So if you want the next version soon, you'd better tell your friends.

Until next time, keep eating!

Bundesrepublik Deutschland!!!!

I would like to give a shout out to all the Germans in the house. Deutschland we love you so very much.

In the past 24 hours our hit count from Deutschland has soared. Almost 19% of our total traffic is now coming from Deutschland. I wish I knew how so many Germans found out about us.

I am glad there is at least one country that has as much love for scientific simulations of giant men battling small children as the EGv8 dev team.

Go Deutschland!!! (other countries, you are seriously slacking. get going)

A Public Challenge

With the fresh release of v0.3 I would like to issue a challenge.

Challenge: Defeat Level Nine.

After many hours of play I am pretty certain that no one will be able to do it. If you do please let us know and send us a screen shot of the game after the goal is met. We will post it here with your name for all to see. Cheating is not allowed. Since this is an open source game we are going on the honor code.

The winner will also receive special mention in the next release.

If you don't manage to beat the level send in your top results anyway. If there are no winners we will take the closest result.

Good Luck!

VERSION 0.3 OMGWTFBBQPWNED

As we close in on the end of the day, I'd like to take a moment to let everyone know that version 0.3 of Evil Greg vs. Eight Year Olds is being released on time. So put down that classic novel you've been reading in your easy chair and get on with the action. Punching, stomping, and breathing fire at little kids is way more fun than reading about Julius Ceasar and you know it.

There are lots of nice updates, the best of which are the aforementioned power-ups and much better levels.

Head on over to http://egv8.game.googlepages.com/downloads to find the game and get ready to stuff yourself silly with dead kids, pizza, spicy Indian food, and drugs.
Let us know what you think of the new features! (Use the comments)

Coming Soon: EGv8 v0.3

We're closing in on the goal for version 0.3's release. We've set it for next Monday, 16th of July. In addition to the power-ups mentioned already, we'll be including a new enemy type, better levels, new animations, and a few other surprises.

Aren't you just dying in anticipation? I sure am. If you want to do some game balance testing, send us an email at EGv8.Game@gmail.com, and we'll set you up!

P.S. Tomorrow is TACO NIGHT!!!!

Drugs, Drugs, Drugs

The latest feature in development is powerups. Some sample powerups include Drugs (increase damage), Pizza (decrease hunger and maybe health), Spicy Indian Food (gives heartburn). If any of our readers have ideas please share. Use the comments!! We love feedback.

Make sure your ideas are scientifically accurate. We would not want to sacrifice the integrity of our simulation.

Egv8 v0.2.1

Due to popular demand, a small upgrade release has been made to allow our faithful readers/gamers to try out the brand new flame animation and level system. There's even a few bug fixes in there too.
Enjoy!

Get it here

Too much work in too little time

We added features and administrated like crazy today (yesterday actually).

I setup the code hosting at http://code.google.com/hosting/p/egv8 including importing the code into subversion.

Sal added a level feature.
I added a Flame animation for Evil Greg.
We fixed bugs.
We updated the website.
We announced the release of egv8_v0.2 at http://pygame.org/projects/20/449/?release_id=759

It seriously has been a rediculous day.
I'm going to pass out for a billion hours now... KTHXBAI

What broken link?

Broken link? I don't know what your referring to. That link still works. Click it.

All this talk of broken links is just to mask your re-release of v0.2 containing code changes. Our faithful readers must know the truth.

Correction to file location

Haha. I broke your link. The file is now available here
Sucks to be the one that goes to bed first doesn't it player?

High on the Goog

It was a mix of google overdose and an insane day at work that led to the creation of the blog. Basically I thought it would be a good place to post news items.

What news? Version 0.2 has been released. You can find it here.

Now we can add more crap to the game.

First POST

Uhhh.... Why the hell do we have a blog? I have no idea. Sal got high on google aps apparently. Right now I'm working on cleaning up the dirty hacks in EGv8. It's a lot more fun than animating. A flame animation is definitely the next priority in that area though. Hopefully by the end of the day, version 0.1.4 will be done.
